Quest Stage Race Series Kicks off in 2010!

In 2010 we’ll be kicking off our Quest Stage Race Series with the Voyageur Quest Stage Race on the Superior Hiking Trail overlooking Lake Superior.  Races will be 5 days insht25 length and each race will be unique in its environment, topography, stage length and character.  Some races may be geared more towards ultramarathon athletes with longer daily stages while other races may have shorter daily stages.  The format will be similar to our tours:  you run (or in this case race) and we’ll transport your gear to the next evenings campsite or lodging facility.

We’ll have aid stations along the way, and runners will be required to carry mandatory gear as well.  Other stage races in the series are in the works, so please check our website for more details as we have them http://www.adventurerunningco.com/quest-race-series.html

New Series of Tours – Running the Grand 100’s!

Adventure Running Co. is planning a new series of tours covering the courses of several of our great 100 mile endurance runs.  These tours are designed for ultramarathon runners and trail runners seeking beautiful trails and perhaps considering a trail ultramarathon in their future.

If you’ve ever wanted to run a 100 mile endurance run but thought you weren’t ready to run 100 miles in 24 hours or 36 hours or even 48 hours, one of these tours might be for you.  Have you wanted to run one of the classic 100 mile races like Western States, Wasatch Front or Hardrock but lost out on the lottery and you’d like to run the entire course anyway? How about a training run or course preview for your next attempt at one of these great 100 mile races?  Are you the spouse or significant other of someone who runs 100 mile races? You’ve been their crew and support and now you’d like to run one of the great 100 mile courses they’ve run so you can experience the course for yourself.  Maybe you’ve run all of these races, but want to see the entire course during the day.  Well, now here’s your chance! The Adventure Running Co. will be offering these new 5 day tours covering some of the country’s most famous, most popular and most beautiful 100 mile endurance runs. These classic courses were chosen because they are a few of the most well known and sought after 100 mile courses in the world. They’re also some of the most scenic and they’re either 100 mile point to point courses or large loops which lend themselves well to a supported journey run.

In the works are trail running tours covering the Hardrock 100, Wasatch Front 100, Western States 100, Cascade Crest 100, Massanutten Mountain 100 and Angeles Crest 100 courses. In addition, our Superior Hiking Trail tour covers virtually the entire Superior Sawtooth 100 course. These 5 day tours will offer the same amenities of our other supported trail running tours including guides, warm meals at the end of the day, hot showers and more. They’ll offer a mix of lodging and camping depending on the tour location.

For 2009, we’re working with the Hardrock 100 Endurance Run to offer a 5 day tour covering the beautiful and challenging Hardrock course.  This tour will include a mix of lodging and camping with two nights lodging in Telluride and Ouray and two nights camping among the spectacular San Juan mountains.  Distances covered each day will range from 14.5 to 27.8 miles.  This tour will be offered either the week prior to or the week following the official start of the 2009 Hardrock 100 Endurance Run.  We hope you’ll join us for this spectacular tour of one of the Grand 100’s!

Number of Trail Runners Expanding

Research by the Outdoor Industry Association shows that trail running is one of the top 5 active outdoor recreation activities participated in by Americans.  In 2005 18% of all Americans, over 40 million according to the OIA survey, participated in trail running at least once, and only those who enjoy bicycling accounted for more outings than trail runners.  Trail running was one of the fastest growing outdoor activities over an eight year period.

A more recent survey from the Outdoor Industry Association revealed that there are an estimated 7.8 million Americans who regularly participate in trail running.  According to this survey, running/jogging/trailrunning combined accounted for 3.65 billion outings.  While other outdoor activities are seeing declines in recent years, trail running continues to grow.
